Know in Details About Timber Doors

Doors are the entry points of our property, whether house, office, shop, warehouse or any other place. They need to be strong enough so that no one can break through them and enter our interiors. Doors are usually made up of hard materials like wood, metal, steel or a combination of them, but timber is gaining fast popularity these days.  Whether you are building a new home, renovating or adding an extension, the external doors, internal doors, wardrobes and cupboard doors you choose will have a unique impact on the look of your property. Solid timber doors are a failsafe option to choose from.

Why Install Timber Doors?

Timber or wood is most commonly used for making doors and windows. Its main advantage is that it can be locally procured and easily made by the local carpenters. Lighter timbers such as pine and ash are better suited for periodic homes, while the darker woods such as oak and cherry are perfect for contemporary schemes. Wooden doors must be properly sealed with a quality solvent-based finish before installation. The frames, tops and bottoms must also be treated. There are large varieties of wood doors available in the market, and the final selection is based on the homeowner’s budget, personal choice and interior or exterior decor of the house. They can be used for different locations in the house, including exterior locations, main gates, cupboards, room doors etc.

Benefits of Installing Timber Doors

All around the world, timber doors are considered as the excellent choice. Timber not only looks good, but it is aesthetically appealing too. Timber can be extracted in a variety of colors, textures and finishes, and you can choose the one that best suits your aesthetic requirements. It is good for the environment too. A house which uses a lot of timber doors and windows can store at most 225 kg of carbon, which is equivalent to 830 kg of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Timber used in windows and doors curbs carbon emissions in three ways:

#1. The carbon stored in growing trees is stored and retained in the timber till the life of the building and extends the period that the carbon dioxide captured in forests is kept out of the atmosphere.

#2. Using wood instead of energy-intensive materials avoids the emissions which is associated with producing those materials. These are actually significant carbon sinks.

#3. Increased timber use helps in the expansion of forests. Each cubic meter of timber in a building deports between 250 and 300 kg of carbon present in the atmosphere. This is equivalent to 0.9 to 1 tons of carbon dioxide. According to European studies, using one meter of timber also prevents another 1.1 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Timber can be grown again and again on a continual and sustainable basis so there is enough of it to go. Wood grows in trees and for the trees to grow; they need only soil, air, water, sunlight and a long period of time. If the process is managed well, trees can be grown substantially, harvested and regrown on a continuous basis to provide us a renewable resource. In contrast to other building materials made from finite and non-renewable resources, timber is a natural, biodegradable and renewable source. It is useful for nature and human both. Opting nature in place of unnatural things will be a better choice for all.

Now that you know all the benefits of using timber doors, be wise to opt for them and save the environment. You don’t need to compromise on looks, as the variety of colors and designs that you can get from wood is not available with any other material used for making doors.
