What Is A Juice Extractor?

A juice extractor is a device that separates juice mechanically from the pulp of most fruits, vegetables, herbs, and leafy greens. The pulp may be discarded or used in bread and muffins or for composting, or other purposes.

Most juice extractors are electric and require significantly less effort than the manual ones. Juice extractors are different from a blender as they separate the juice and the pulp while blenders liquefy the pulp and blend everything together.

● Centrifugal Juice Extractors: These use flat blades and a sieve first to separate juice from pulp and then have two different outlets, one for the juice and one for the pulp. However, for all, it’s advantages, it cannot juice wheatgrass.

● Masticating Juicers: This is a kind of commercial juice extractor which has a single auger and uses a screw first to compact the fruit and crush it against a stationary screen, allowing the juice to flow through while the pulp is obtained through a separate outlet. They ‘chew’ the fruit down to a pulp before juicing it.

● Triturating Juicers: These juice extractors have twin gears and offer the best yield of juice. Hence, they are usually the most expensive juice extractors in the market. They make use of two counter-rotating metal gears to crush the fodder to be juiced. The juice flows through the gaps between the gears while the pulp is passed along their top and then expelled.

● Steam Juice Extractors: These are pots that generate steam to heat a batch of fruits (mostly berries) in a perforated pot. It is stacked on a collecting container which is above the steam pot. The juice gets extracted without any mechanical effort and hence is very clear. This juice is pasteurized because of the steam and can be stored for long term purposes.
